Physical Activity

Schools on the Move provides schools with the tools and focus to help promote more physical activity among their pupils.
Being physically active has been shown to improve not only physical, psychological and social health and well-being but also improve academic achievement too.

To improve health, it is recommended that all children and young people should participate in a minimum of one hour of moderate physical activity every day yet 39% of girls and 30% of boys are still not doing enough activity each week to benefit their health!

For adults the physical activity recommendation is to participate in 30 minutes of at least moderate activity on at least 5 days of the week and brisk walking is an ideal activity to help achieve the recommendation.

However, any type of physical activity is beneficial and just by encouraging individuals to reduce the amount of time they spend sitting still or being inactive is a good starting point.
