Odometers

OdometerOdometers are compact gadgets that can be attached to the rim of a wheelchair wheel and used to measure how active you are by recording the distance travelled, based on the wheelchair’s movement.

How do they work?
Odometers operate electronically via a battery to digitally record distance based on the cadence of the wheelchair wheel.

Why are they useful?
Physical activity is always more rewarding hen you get to see how much progress your making and these odometers can provide immediate feedback for goal setting, self-monitoring and provide the motivation to become physically active.

How can they be used in SOTM?
A ‘Distance Converter’ can be found in the ‘Odometer’ section under the Information menu in the pupil’s area of the SOTM website.

This allows pupils to enter distance travelled, in steps, so that wheelchair users can participate in the challenges with other odometer and pedometer users.
