Third of children eat a takeaway a week

A survey of parents has found that children as young as 9 months are eating a diet of takeaways, fizzy drinks, crisps and sweets. Furthermore, nearly a third of under-threes eat at least one takeaway a week and 19% were given take-aways or adult meals every day. Nearly half  of the parents admitted using food to bribe, reward of calm children.

The survey revealed a gross misunderstanding among parents about the recommended levels of salt, fat and sugar, a very worrying trend given the current obesity epidemic
